The Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Music: CISM Film Discussion Series join Professor Eric Prieto (French) and Rob Wallace (English) for a screening of "THREE TALES"--music by Steve Reich, video by Beryl Korot 

Prieto and Wallace will briefly introduce the piece and lead a discussion after the screening.

"THREE TALES" (2002) is the second collaboration between composer Steve Reich and his wife, video artist Beryl Korot. In the style of their earlier piece, "THE CAVE" (1994), this work combines Reich's distinctive blend of acoustic instruments and sampled speech/sounds with Korot's video images, creating a unique musical and visual experience. The "three tales" of the title consists of footage of, and interviews and commenary about, three 20th Century events: The Hindenburg explosion, the atomic bomb tests on the Bikini Atoll, and the cloning experiment that produced Dolly the sheep. Each of these tales develop inerweaving philosophical, religious, and musical ideas in a dreamlike web of images and sound.
